On Saturday 14 October, the BISS Lions Swim Team attended the SSL Round 1 Swim Meet at Shanghai Singapore International School. It was our first swim meet of the academic year, and we were all intoxicated by the wonderful atmosphere and the great performances of all our swimmers.

Avenues New York and Avenues São Paulo join the Nord Anglia Education family of international schools. The two Avenues schools have exceptional reputations for teaching and learning innovation, with students graduating as accomplished global citizens. This takes our global family to 87 schools across 33 countries.

The Year 5 Greek Picnic on Friday 13 October served as an introduction to our exciting new topic: ancient Greece. Over the next few weeks, the children will immerse themselves in the rich history, mythology, and cultural heritage of this fascinating civilisation.

On Friday 13 October, not deterred by the rain, our talented GCSE and IB Art students went downtown to explore the diverse neighbourhoods of the city to gain inspiration to support them in their coursework unit.

On Saturday 14 October, twenty students set off to compete in the annual CISSA Cross Country Cross River Event. The event was attended by international schools from across Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou, with over 200 students participating.

On Saturday 14 October, BISS held its annual University Fair on the Secondary campus. With over 50 universities in attendance – universities spanning the globe from Canada to Australia – the corridors on the ground floor were truly bustling.

What is a Prefect? A Prefect employs the core values of courtesy, respect, and responsibility. Prefects are ambassadors for the school and are excellent role models for other students. Their function is to represent the student body at school events and to act as role models upholding our value system.

Eugene graduated from BISS Puxi in 2022 and is currently studying BA (Hons) Architecture at Edinburgh University. In this interview, Eugene talks us through the valuable experiences he had at BISS, how international education helped to shape his future ambitions, and provides some useful advice for students looking to follow a similar path.

The AmCham Shanghai Art & Culture competition theme this year is “Sprout,” which is a metaphor for spring, revival, and vitality. AmCham encouraged children aged 18 and under to express their ideas through different forms of art, be it a painting, sculpture, photo, short video, design product, or an art installation.

Since 18 September, the BISS Community has embarked on an exciting challenge to accumulate the furthest distance possible by walking, running, swimming, surfing, skiing, cycling and any other physically-powered mode of transport.

Experiencing Gustav Klimt's "Falling in Gold": An Inspiring Journey for IGCSE ESL and English B Students.

The Opening Minds, Opening Lives (OMOL) project is a social enterprise that is currently being run as a collaboration between IB students at BISS Puxi and NAIS Pudong. The project was initiated three years ago with the objective of providing a bespoke English curriculum for over 400 physically and mentally challenged children at Nan Yang Orphanage in Henan province. The OMOL project is one way through which our students demonstrate NAE’s “Be ambitious” philosophy as well as a clear testimony of how they uphold the IB Learner Profile attributes of being caring, principled and risk-taking learners.

We are thrilled to share the resounding success of our European Day of Languages celebration, with a special focus on the enchanting country of Czechia. This event was a captivating journey through language, culture, and the spirit of giving.

On Wednesday 27 September,  the Secondary EAL Department held a parent workshop for all parents with students in Secondary EAL in Years 7-10. The purpose of this event was to allow us the opportunity to meet our parent community, introduce the EAL Department and what we do as well as answer any questions.

To welcome our Year 7 students to their Secondary School life, a milestone in their learning journey, they undertake a project called “Myself and My School”. The students complete this work in their first two weeks in the Secondary School.

Throughout the final week before the October holiday, all of our Secondary Mandarin students took part in cultural activities ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival on Friday 29 September. The students learned how to make moon cakes as well as learning about some of traditional elements of the festival. The delicious moon cakes were made during their lessons – the students really enjoyed themselves in the process.

The Flowers of War is one of the books that aligns with the syllabus for IB Chinese A Paper 2 that we study. The story is based on the Nanjing Massacre, so last week, we took an educational trip to Nanjing. During the trip, we visited The Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre, which provided us with a deeper insight into the book's descriptions. This experience greatly enhanced our understanding of the book and facilitated the analytical process. Additionally, we visited Wuyi Lane, a location referenced in the book.

Over the past weeks our Year 12 students have embarked on the next stage of their educational journey with us at BISS Puxi as IB learners. On Thursday 14 September, we held our annual ‘Welcome to the IB Academy: Succeeding at the IBDP’ evening. The purpose of this event is to provide our students and their parents with an overview of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at BISS Puxi and offer practical advice on how best to approach the programme to maximise their potential for success.
