Sixteen BSB students who are in native Chinese classes participated in the first ‘Panda Cup Chinese Reading Challenging’ competition during on Saturday 12th May, held at the International School of Beijing. There were four teams from Year 8 and Year 9 that take part in the competition.
BSB Team Two got the Gold Award for the Best scores for one of the five competition books. The team members are Kelly Van, Shanty Zhan, Isabella Lian and Olivia Lin in Year 8.
This Chinese reading competition was organized by International School of Beijing, The British School of Beijing and Dulwich College Beijing and the preparation started last November. The goal on this reading competition is to promote Chinese reading in international schools. The founder schools wish that this reading competition could include the participation of more non-native Chinese speaker students next time. As the famous linguist Dr. Stephen Krashen said in his talk held at BSB in 2016 , “Reading is powerful for language learning”.
