The first day of school is a very special occasion in Germany. Children and parents look forward to this day in anticipation for months. Children receive a huge "school cone" (Schultüte) from their parents, filled with small surprises and then a lovely celebration within the circle of family usually rounds off this day. Since parents cannot come inside the school this year, we rescheduled the little celebration and invited our 13 new first graders/GK1 students to a “First day of School Party” and had their first acquaintance in a restaurant on 29th August. The children took lovely pictures in front of the school with their school bags and cones, and some even wore their school uniforms. After that, the proud first graders went with their parents and siblings to the restaurant Hulu.
When they got there, the children were warmly welcomed by the German Primary School GPS choir. 23 children performed a small musical that introduced the GK1 to everyday life at BSB. Another highlight was the decoration of biscuits which represented the names of the children. They were delicious! Now they know that working on their letters can be fun!
A few days later we were finally able to welcome the children inside the school.
Welcome, first Graders GK1, we are so happy to meet you!
