Last week, Year 3 students got the opportunity to put on their very own Play in a week (PIAW) called “Plastic Pirates”. After watching other year groups perform their PIAW previously, all of the children were really excited to get going. They learned their lines, songs and dances quickly and professionally. They really enjoyed the opportunity to go to the theatre and learn more about acting and stage directions.
After a few days of practice and preparation, Year 3 children got to do their first dress rehearsal for Year 2 and 4 on Wednesday. This really helped them see the whole performance for the first time and understand the play in greater depth. The students got one more chance to practice for Year 5 and 6 on Friday morning and there was a noticeable improvement again as they got more comfortable with their parts.
On Friday it was the performance all of the students had been waiting for when parents were invited to attend. It was amazing performance that blew everyone away! It was hard to believe they only had a week to practice! A big thank you to all the Year 3 teachers and also Mrs. Piotrowska who did such a fantastic job directing!
See what our students like about PIAW!
Comments from Ms. Nonie, Head of Primary.
“Let's start with a huge congratulations to our Year 3 students and staff for their terrific Play in a Week performances today. They have been working hard all week to learn lines, produce backdrops and stage settings, learn songs and dance moves, sort out costumes etc. The play, Plastic Pirates, had a very relevant and important message about looking after our sea creatures by not dumping plastic into oceans, seas, rivers and lakes. Many thanks to our Primary Performing Arts Leader, Mrs Piotrowska, for leading this production and giving our students very fond and life-long memories through this experience.”
