Weekly Highlights 03/04/2026

Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Dear Parents,
A short one from me this week as there is much to read within the primary and secondary sections.
This time of the year is always especially rewarding, as we begin to clearly see the impact of students’ learning coming together in meaningful ways. Across the school, children are demonstrating growing confidence, applying the skills and knowledge they have developed, and taking increasing ownership of both their academic learning and social interactions.

It is wonderful to see students more comfortable working collaboratively, confidently sharing their ideas, and transferring learning from the classroom into real situations. These moments reflect not only academic progress, but also the development of resilience, independence, and positive relationships — qualities that underpin success well beyond school.

Assemblies in Primary are a great example of this as are the recent expeditions across the whole school. For secondary, we are beginning to plan leadership roles for next year already and I have enjoyed being part of this process and hearing from students directly about their views on our school and how they would improve it.

All student from Year 3 to Year 13 have or are currently undertaking a student survey about our school. We will use this information and work with the students to improve our school.

Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parents’ Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.

A huge thank you also to all students who have put themselves forward for the Young Musician of the Year Competition. We have received our highest number of entries yet, making it an exciting but challenging task for Mr David and Mr Darragh as they assess performances and select those moving forward to the next round. Well done to everyone who has bravely shared their musical talents, whether through instrument or voice.

Year 1 Trip to Bitexco Tower
On Thursday, our Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting trip to Bitexco Financial Tower as part of their learning on buildings. Having explored different types of structures and buildings in class, this was a fantastic opportunity to experience a real-world skyscraper and see the city from above at the Sky Deck. The children were full of curiosity and wonder as they observed the design, height, and views, bringing their learning to life in a memorable way.
F3 Trip to Kiwooza Planet
Foundation Stage 3 enjoyed a fantastic day trip to Kiwooza Planet on Tuesday, where learning and fun went hand in hand. The visit provided wonderful opportunities for Physical Development through active play, while also encouraging creative thinking as children explored and engaged with a range of imaginative activities. It was equally valuable for Personal and Social Development, as the children developed confidence, worked together, and increased their independence in a new environment. A truly enjoyable and enriching experience for all!.jpg?h=675&w=900&rev=db147acfcb954db79c31901eacc19caa&hash=EABA715D2A22F6C083DDC4EAB8505407)

BVIS Student Selected for Prestigious MIT Trip
We are incredibly proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement from our STEAM programme at BVIS. Jessica (Year 11) has been selected for the highly prestigious MIT Student Trip 2026, an exceptional opportunity that will see her travel to Boston to collaborate with students from across the Nord Anglia Education family at the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This year’s competition was the most competitive to date, with applications submitted from across all the Nord Anglia’s global network of 89 schools. Only 68 students worldwide were selected, making Jessica’s achievement truly exceptional.
Designing Solutions for a Better World
As part of the challenge, students were required to identify a real-world issue they are passionate about and design an innovative solution inspired by MIT’s cutting-edge research and technology.Jessica’s project focused on a highly relevant issue here in Vietnam — air pollution.
Her work demonstrated a strong understanding of:
• The causes and effects of air pollution, particularly PM2.5 and its impact on human health
• The environmental challenges faced in major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City
• Practical and scientifically grounded solutions, including the use of catalytic converters to reduce harmful emissions
To accompany her project, Jessica also produced a 4.5-minute video presentation, where she confidently explained her ideas, demonstrated her research, and clearly communicated the importance and impact of her solution. This ability to present complex ideas with clarity and confidence was a key factor in her success.
A Strong Field of Innovators
Jessica’s project stood out amongst an exceptionally strong group of applicants across Nord Anglia schools worldwide. We would also like to recognise Moon (Year 9), who submitted an excellent application and was a very close runner-up. This is a fantastic achievement and highlights the strength of innovation, ambition, and talent across multiple year groups within our BVIS student community.
Looking Ahead
Jessica will now go on to represent BVIS at MIT in November 2026, where she will take part in hands-on workshops, collaborate with international peers, and further develop her skills as a future innovator and problem-solver.
A huge congratulations to Jessica on this incredible achievement — we are all extremely proud of you.
