As the first term and 2014 comes to a close, we are reminded of so many great things that have happened at BSB in sport so far this year. Overall to start this academic year, we have had a total of 434 registered students who have played in at least one sport either for a BSB sports team or through one of our many sport “Invites” which typically are for KS1 & KS2 students. Though there have been so many highlights this term, I just wanted to further highlight again some of the great sport opportunities at BSB.
A personal high for me on the Sport side given I have a Year 2 daughter at BSB, was the 2nd Annual Year 2 Mixed Football Invite which had over 100 Year 2 students from three other international schools in Beijing. In total there were 9 Year 2 mixed teams playing football.
Our fabulous new Sports Dome, which offers BSB a multi-sport indoor playing facility for basketball, volleyball, netball and handball among other sports, with controlled AQI level of less than 10, was opened and inaugurated with our first ever U19 Netball Invitational Tournament on Saturday, 23rd October, 2014.
Lastly, our Secondary Day of Sport was probably the best day I have had at BSB over these past 5 years. All students in secondary participated in athletics and swimming competitions followed by fun sports within year groups over the course of the whole day. Already looking forward to next fall for this House competition.
However, though Season 1 is over, we have one more final order of business for the season and it is the handing out the Season 1 Sports Awards to all the teams for the player recognized as Most Valuable Player (MVP), Most Improved Player (MIP), & Coaches Choice/ Players Player. In the Primary and Secondary Assemblies on Friday, 5th December, a total of 78 Award winners were handed their trophies in recognition of their contributions to their teams, over a combined 26 Primary and Secondary teams. I want to congratulate not only these award winners but also all the students who have participated in sports for Season 1 as your hard work and commitment is well noted by all BSB teachers and staff.
Looking forward to the New Year and communicating some great Season 2 sport results. Also, just a reminder that our 2nd Annual “3 vs. 3” Mini-Volleyball Tournament will be held at BSB this Saturday, 6th December. This year, we have over 150 players from 7 international schools playing. If you are free, come and cheer on the 6 BSB teams playing. Competitions will be taking place in the Sports Dome and main Gym from 9am to 1pm.
