Classroom News & Photos Year 3

18 September 2014

Week ending 19th September, 2014

Year 3 started their topic with a "Castaway launch" day. The children were baffled when they walked into class to find their teachers looking like they had just washed up on a beach not having slept or eaten for days. It really got their thoughts and minds ticking. We kick started the day by gathering all the children together next to a shipwreck. The children were then told to beware of pirates and how to act if they saw any. Their next task was to design a raft in groups which were then made and tested in the swimming pool. 3RH were the proud winners of the raft race. We also had a maths treasure hunt on the pirate ship. A great day was had by all!

All of Year 3 have been learning about teeth this term. The children have been learning lots of new words. They had great fun creating models of their own teeth out of plasticine and one pupil, Lara Tolonen exclaimed, "this is so much fun, can we do this during break time?!" They have also experienced pirates coming into their classroom and leaving things like messages in bottles and treasure on a map. The children were so enthused in their learning that they created some fantastic maps on a grid.

The children have been showing their fantastic creative skills by completing some amazing "Castaway" homework. Some have created their own island maps, actual models of islands and messages in bottles. All the teachers have been really impressed by the Year 3 children and they can't wait to see what else the children will produce in the year to come! Well done, Year 3!
