Secondary IGCSE Results

05 September 2014

The class of 2014 have achieved some excellent IGCSE results, and there are some great individual performances in there too!

First of all I’d like to mention Markus Wagner, who gained 8 A* grades and 2A’s. This came as no surprise to his teachers, who have known that he is an exceptionally able young man for a very long time. Markus has returned to Germany, and we wish him the best of luck for the future, although with these incredible results I’m sure he’s on a firm footing for whatever the future may hold.

Secondly I’d like to congratulate Tian Yuan Liu, Tornado. We all know he’s a force of nature on the piano of course, but with 7 A* grades and 2 A’s he’s clearly a force to be reckoned with in lessons too! Tornado has begun his IB Diploma here at BSB and is studying Economics, Physics and Mathematics amongst other subjects, whilst maintaining his piano practice.

A special mention must also go to Amy Wei, with 7 A*’s and 2 A’s. We know Amy as a talented author, but of course she is an excellent student in all disciplines. Amy has chosen to study English Language and Literature and Art as part of her IB Diploma.

Overall, 35% of all grades achieved were A or A*, the A-C pass rate with English and Maths was 70% (the UK average is 60%), and nearly 20% of our students achieved 5 or more A and A* grades.

I’d like to congratulate the Mandarin teachers and students for their incredible results – they achieved a 100% A-C pass rate, with nearly 80% at A or A*. 96% of our Geography students achieved a C or above, compared with the international average of only 72%. 98% of our students achieved a C or above in English Second Language, compared with 68% globally. 95% of our English Literature students achieved a C or better, compared with an average figure of only 80%. In English First Language, 44% of our students achieved an A or A* compared with the average of 20% in other international schools. I could go on. These results are some of the best I have ever seen in a school which is not selective based on ability. These statistics are telling – they show that students who are capable of the very best grades really excel here at BSB, and this is exactly what we promise – through great teaching your child will achieve more with us!

Congratulations to our fantastic students on their outstanding results, and many thanks to our parents for their continued support.
