Report for BSB Shoebag Appeal 2015
Update from Yu Min Im, Year 12 IB CAS Student
I participated in the recent BSB Shoebag Appeal which involved Year 12 CAS students sorting items and packing bags with these donated goods. BSB families donated many items and money for this voluntary activity. These 200 filled bags will be delivered to Gansu province school students and local Beijing migrant schools students over the next few weeks. They will contain some stationary, hat, gloves, sweets, toy or game a cuddly toy.
In order to encourage BSB students to donate, some of Year 12 students gave a short speech and announcement in front of primary and secondary students. Not to waste products donated, we told them what items would be most useful to help the under privileged children. In addition, we let them know the aim for this activity in order to encourage them to donate more.
This activity is very important for the IB CAS component of the course. As a group we are investigating an issue of global importance. This is because I realize that many people try their best and pay attention to help other people who need some help. They donated many goods and money to help them to have better lives. It was really touching and encourages me to do more this kind of activity.
I also learned that helping people can not only make them happy but the students from within the wider BSB community. It encourages me to do more service such as donating even with small money to local charities.
The Year 12 IB CAS students would like to thank everyone from the BSB community who donated items and money for the Shoebag Appeal. Without your thoughtful donations this great charity project would not have been so successful.
