German Primary Classroom News - Nationwide Reading Day in Germany

25 November 2015

In German Primary School (GPS), we participated at the German Nationwide Reading Day on Friday, 20th November. Reading mums joined our students, reading favourite children’s books in unusual venues like the offices of Mr. Puttock and Mr. Allman. To make the event even more exciting, the students could dress up as their favourite book´s character. This reading day showed us that, as soon as an adult reads a book to a child, it is an invitation to let the children’s imagination escape…

The GPS teachers and teaching assistants were easy to recognise, since we dressed up as the seven dwarfs and our only male teacher was Snow White! Our students brought in books and had the opportunity to read themselves.

Back in Germany, more than 110.000 people, including politicians and celebrities, read to children. We all followed the same goal: to keep alive the magical fascinations when listening to stories.
