November 11th is a special day for all children in Germany: it is the day of holy St. Martin. This celebration is in memory of the roman soldier Martin, who helped a poor, freezing man by sharing his coat with him. The highlight of the St. Martin’s celebration is the lantern parade, which takes place at night when children show their decorated lanterns and sing-a-long typical songs for St. Martin.
On the evening of Friday, 20th November, the whole German Primary School community (students, parents and teachers) met at BSB, and after a touching theater play about St. Martin done by our year 6 students, everyone join the parade. Finally, after singing and displaying their gorgeous lanterns, the students, their families and teachers had delicious pretzel and punch on the playground.
