In Teddies, we really enjoyed celebrating our Rainbow day and carried on with rainbow related activities all week as the children loved it so much!
We coloured some rice with food colouring, making some in every colour of the rainbow! We then worked together as a whole class team to create our own rainbow by making semi-circle shapes using the rice in the correct order. The children poured the rice into the tray very carefully with a little help from the teachers. They told us which colour should come next one by one. When they were finished they were very excited by the beautiful rainbow that we had made.
We sang our ‘rainbow’ song – adapted from our favourite episode of Peppa Pig ‘Rainbow day’. The children were then able to mix up all of the rainbow rice so that they could play with the rainbow rice in the maths area, where they enjoyed filling pots, counting spoonfuls and trying to sort it all back out into the colours, grain by grain using their fingers, small tweezers and spoons…however this activity was rather a test of everyone’s patience!
