Sport Update

28 August 2015

  • Sports info evening

Welcome back BSB Sport followers. It’s was great to see so many returning and new parents/students at our annual Sports, Music, Drama information evening last Tuesday 25th August.

As you are aware, U19 Volleyball has already started training on Wednesday 26th August. (U19 Volleyball trainings/scheduled fixtures are every Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 3:45-5:15PM). We have a record turn-out this year meaning for the first time at BSB, we will be entering both an U19 & U16 team for both boys and girls at the ISAC level. First matches for boys D3 team & Girls D2 & D3 teams vs. HISB on Wednesday 2nd September at BSB (Start 4:30PM). Also, our U19 teams will be traveling to Hong Kong Academy for ACAMIS Volleyball on 29th October to 1st November 2015. It’s so amazing to see how our Volleyball program has really come full circle at the U19 level.

U14/U13/U12 football kicked off yesterday with their first training (U14 Football trainings/scheduled fixtures are every Monday/Thursday from 3:45-5:15PM). Record turn-out for football means BSB will be entering 6 teams again at these age groups at the ISAC level. The ISAC exchanges are scheduled for Saturday 12th September (U14 D1 boys @ISB, U14 D1 girls @BSB, U13 boys @DCB, U13 girls @HISB, U12 boys @BCIS, & U12 girls @BSB). Also new this year, BSB will be entering a team in the annual 7’s Soccer Tournament held at BIS Phuket on 6th – 8th November 2015. BSB will send teams in the U13 and U11 categories for both boys and girls. Any interested students/players can email the boys lead coach at adam.worsley@britishschool.org.cn & girls lead coach at joanne.north@britishschool.org.cn .

U16 baseball will start today Friday 28th August. The annual ISB Fall Classic is scheduled for October 15th & 17th this year. BSB is aiming to make it three years in a row as Champions. Also for the second year in a row we will be playing Netball at the U19 level. First training is Tuesday 1st September. We are hosting again the U19 Netball Invite tournament for Beijing/Tianjin schools scheduled for 7th November. We are also aiming at sending for the first time, a team to play at U19 ACAMIS Netball Championships being held at our sister school British International School of Shanghai Pudong (BISS) on 30th & 31st October.

Our Aquatics program continues to grow and grow. The summer project of building our own Foundation Stage Pool has been completed and PE Lessons have begun to use it. We will offer swimming to all Foundation Stage age children over the course of the year. On the AquaBears side, we aim to get our Swim team over 100 students this year. BSB is tentatively scheduled to participate in up to 30 Swim Meets this year both locally and internationally. Swim Try-Outs are scheduled for Monday 31st August (Y3/4), Tuesday 1st September (Y5/6), & Wednesday 2nd September (All Secondary). If anyone has any questions please email directly BSB’s Head of Aquatics/Aquabears at alasdair.armstrong@britishschool.org.cn

On the Primary side, Season 1 sports will begin Tuesday 8th September for U11/U10/U9/U8 (Y6/5/4/3) football. On Thursday 10th September, U11/U9 (Y6/5/4) Cross Country & U9 (Y4/3) Athletics will begin. Trainings are after school from 3:30-4:30PM, however the first week before the ASA buses begin, running training will finish at 5:00PM on both Tuesday & Thursday. Starting 15th September, all primary students training for primary sports will take the ASA buses home (Scheduled for Tuesday & Thursday during Season 1). Mark your calendars as well, the BSB Primary Football Invites are scheduled for Tuesday 20th October for U11 boys/girls, Wednesday 21st October for U10 boys/girls, Thursday 22nd October for U9 boys/girls, & Friday 23rd October for U8 boys/girls. These Invites will begin at 10AM and finish by 2PM.

Lastly, just another reminder about our Secondary Late Bus departures after trainings and fixtures. The Late bus will depart BSB at 5:30PM every Monday to Friday (On a few occasions for U19 fixtures, on Monday/Wednesday/Friday the Late Bus might be delayed to the latest departing time of 6:00PM). Only Secondary students can take the Late Bus and no primary students are allowed to take it. Students living in Shunyi will be dropped off at their compounds with Downtown students being dropped off at locations in relative closeness to their compounds. If parents have any questions about the Secondary Late Bus, please contact me directly.

I look forward to another great Sport year at BSB. Last year we had over 60 teams between secondary/primary with just over 600 students registered/participating in Sport. It’s too early to accurately predict this year’s numbers but with the turnouts already, we look to increase the participation once again for the third year in a row. Just a final reminder all students who want to play sport must register to do so. Please log on to our Eventbrite system for Seasons 1/2/3/4:
