Year 1 have had a great start to the year with our exciting topic ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’

They have been learning all about dinosaurs and they have even turned our corridor into a scary dinosaur jungle! Children had a lot of fun making and painting giant dinosaurs and footprints, collaging and painting them using camouflage colours. They enjoyed measuring and comparing the size of dinosaurs using non-standard and standard units of measure and they have learnt a lot of mathematical vocabulary related to size.

The children all became archaeologists for the day and explored our school ground to find dinosaur bones, we may have some future archaeologists at BSB!

Children also read the story ‘How to Grow a Dinosaur’ by Caryl Hart and they are very excited to try growing their own dinosaur. I wonder whether any of the children will grow a real dinosaur and turn our school into a dinosaur jungle…They are all looking forward to continuing their learning journey about creatures great and small!
