On the weekend of Friday 18th to Saturday 19th September, the Year 10 students took part in a Camping and First Aid course as part of their training for the International Bronze Award programme.
After school on Friday, the students were involved in putting up tents, cooking their own meals using camping stoves, doing a map skills course and a course on what equipment to bring on future camping trips. It was impressive to see the meals the students had prepared. They spend the night camping under the stars on the school field.
The students were then woken up at 6.45am and after a cooked breakfast, and taking down their tents, the students underwent a 3 hour First Aid course that covered basic hiking ailments and medical emergencies. All the students showed enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, and are now prepared for the future camping trips that will take place next April and June.
Finally a big thank you to all staff that helped out with making the event such a great success – Ms Usher, Miss Hemming, Mr MacIver, Mr Alles, Mr Godward, Mr Lewis, Mr Carlisle, Mr Cobley and Mr Zheng.
