Dear BSB Sport Followers,
It has been another very busy two weeks at BSB for Sport. Our U15 FOBISIA squads has begun training as well as the U19 ACAMIS volleyball squads have just been finalized. More formal announcements will be included in the next newsletter concerning our U15 FOBISIA and U19 ACAMIS squads, so stay posted. For the first time, BSB will be entering teams in the Annual BIS Phuket’s 7’s Soccer Championships. Again, a full update will be included in the next newsletter concerning our teams who will play in Phuket this year, in what has become one of the best international football tournaments in Asia.
As a reminder all of our results and “Up Next: This week in Sport” is posted every week. Please take a look at some great results as well as what is happening this week: https://www.nordangliaeducation.com/schools/beijing/shunyi/news-and-insights/news-info-and-events/sport
I just want to highlight a few results:
Something that gives me so much pleasure is the development and performance of our AquaBears swim team and overall swim program. Under the direction of Mr. Ali Armstrong (BSB’s Head of Aquatics/AquaBears), BSB has grown into one of the best swim programmes, among other schools in Beijing. We recently hosted two swim meets. The first was an open swim meet for both secondary and primary swimmers with 4 other Beijing schools. On the day, BSB swimmers finished in 1st Place 50 out of 68 events. Overall 30 swimmers recorded personal best times. Next, in the U8 (Mini-Bears) swim meet much of the same with BSB recording 29 1st Place finishes out of 40 events. This is amazing results and congratulations to Ali, his team, and all those great BSB swimmers who participated.
On a more personal note because I coach this team, our U16 baseball team (YES, BSB plays Baseball, and has played for the past 4 years) dominated the WABX “Field of Dreams” Baseball D2 Tournament, beating ISB JV 18-8 & WAB JV 20-10 to claim the Championship. It is such a great sight to see these boys play, as for many, this is their one and only sport they play for the academic year. Look for girls’ U16 Softball in the Spring as well.
Last and for sure not least, we had the honor of hosting England Cricket legend Mike Gatting for some Cricket clinics for our Y7 & Y6 students. Please see some great pictures on the day in the above photo gallery and on our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/britishschoolbeijing. We are already tentatively looking at scheduling more events like this in May as well as possibly hosting a Cricket tournament. Stay posted as we put this all together.
Our House Sports also kicked off this past week with KS3 (Y7/8/9) girls football as well as benchball and handball in primary. Look for updates and pictures on Facebook as well as the updates in Sport Section on Sports Blog.
As always feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions.
