Year 3 have been writing up a storm using ‘Talk for Writing’ strategies. Talk for Writing enables children to imitate the key language they need for a particular type of text orally, before they try writing it themselves. Through interactive activities that help them rehearse the language they need, followed by shared writing to show them how to craft their writing, children are helped to write in the same style.
In Year 3, students have been creating mimes, drawing story maps, performing drama and writing shared texts. They have worked with partners, in small groups and as a whole class to verbalise ideas, rehearse language and write texts. The students have woven together traditional dreamtime stories, vivid instructions detailing how to trap a woolly mammoth or saber tooth tiger and epic adventure stories. Their imagination has been inspired which has led to inventive writing that interests the reader.
We cannot wait to see what their writing will deliver in Term 2!
