As many of our parents will know and have experienced, Year 7 had an early start on Monday morning. The group caught a high speed train from Beijing South to Jinan where we got the bus to our first base.
Once we had arrived at the base, we had lunch; afterwards, the students were split into two groups. My half of the group started off by navigating their way through a rope spider web; the next team building exercise involved trying to bounce a tennis ball on a large drum which all of the team were pulling taut with ropes. The students had to improve their teamwork to succeed. The next activities were more challenging. The students had to climb a high vertical pole and take a leap of faith or ascend a ladder formation in pairs.
The BSB staff and the Hutong staff were impressed by the fearlessness or perseverance demonstrated by all of the students. The day was completed with delicious Chinese food and some daily relections. Lots of students were specially mentioned and to be honest, plenty more deserved (and will, over the week, receive)recognition.
