BSB Ambassadors at the NAE-UNICEF Summit 2018

In July 2018, 80 students from Nord Anglia Education (NAE) schools around the world met in New York to attend the NAE-UNICEF Global Goals Summit. As part of NAE’s work on the Global Goals, students were learning about the goals and thinking about how we can further promote them in our schools.

The students spent the week attending a variety of workshops and participating in Model United Nations. We also had tours of the United Nations and UNICEF, both of which were incredibly informative and inspiring. We learnt about how the United Nations was formed, saw some of the meetings that were taking place and learnt about the work the UN do around the world. We also learnt about the amazing things UNICEF have achieved and how we can work with them to help them achieve their goals.

Our Student Ambassadors from BSB, Deborah and Edward, both had important roles on the trip.

Edward (2nd from right below) was one of four NAE students that made a speech at the United Nations High Level Political Forum (HLPF). Many important people spoke at the event, including delegates from the UAE and Bulgaria. He spoke about his ideas on the Sustainable Development Goals, what can be done to help achieve them by 2030 and was fantastic. Their articulate manner and passion for the Sustainable Development Goals was evident for all to see. Deborah (1st left in pink) was one of four students that were given the role of Report Writers. They wrote a report about the Sustainable Development Goals and NAE students’ opinions on them (taken from a worldwide NAE survey), plus looking at actions to promote them in the future.

On the last evening, we had a gala dinner at The Juilliard School. We heard many interesting and inspiring people speak, such as Shannon O’Shea, UNICEF’s Partnerships Manager (below) and our CEO Andrew Fitzmaurice. We then enjoyed a delicious dinner and a lovely last evening with the other NAE students.
