BSB IB CAS donation to Kerala Flood Relief Fund

Government of Kerala confirmed that our contribution from the BSB Shunyi CAS Project has been received towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund

Since July 2018 of this year, the southern Indian state of Kerala has been severely affected by floods. It has been the most devastating natural disaster to occur in the region in the last hundred years. As a result of these floods, over a million people have been evacuated from their homes. Many of these people have completely lost their homes and are still unable to find shelter.

Our BSB community was deeply touched by the issue, and our teachers encouraged us to come up with ways in which we can contribute in order to help these people in desperate need. We found out that the Indian Embassy in Beijing was accepting donations, which would then be passed on to NGOs (non- governmental organizations), aiming to help rebuild homes and public facilities.

Along with my classmates, we decided to use our school’s own cookery room to bake cakes, which would be sold at break time and during lunch. We turned this idea into a reality and managed to raise an astonishing 1435 RMB! We hope that our contribution will help to make a difference for those affected by the flooding.

Additionally, we have deposited spare change bags in classrooms so students can donate pocket change for the floods.

In total, the BSB Community raised 4275.90RMB and this was delivered to the Indian Embassy in Beijing. On 8th September, 2018, the Government of Kerala confirmed that our contribution from the BSB Shunyi CAS Project has been received towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for 45,052 Rupees (please see attached letter).

As global citizens we believe that it is in our responsibility to help wherever we can, no matter how small or big. It was truly an amazing experience, and we hope to see our donations have an impact on the lives of those impacted.
