Reflection 1 written by Jenna, Thomas and Nicholas:
Today we were cycling the “easy” route. At the beginning we were selected to our bikes bases on our height and then we're practiced our gears, after that we cycled our way to the hill. When we got there we went to a broken tulou which was destroyed during the civil War, After that we went to Mr.Sue's tulou and we made our own mini tulou made out of clay and mud.
After that we cycled for 14 kilometers and had some lunch. We cycled our way down hill for another 14 kilometers. A few students were very anxious and scared before because a few of them haven't cycled for a few years but they still had fun. After a tiring day we had dinner, during dinner the hutong staff surprised Batu and Sefa with a birthday cake.
Reflection 2 written by Charlie and Jasmine:
Today, we went hiking. It wasn’t as difficult as we expected it to be although hiking uphill was challenging at first, it was rewarding when we got to the top. We then did group activities and came up with ideas to help tourists understand the culture here better. Everybody made their way back down the mountain and we ate dinner after a long bus ride.
Reflection 3 written by Matias and YeChan:
Today my roommate and I woke up at 6:55 to have a shower. We were already excited to eat breakfast in the beautiful courtyard, because our host (Steven) gave us Nutella and Cereal that we loved. After the amazing breakfast, the hutong staff talked about the safety rules, which we needed for our biking trip.
We split ourselves into 2 groups. One group cycled 28 km and the other group 40 km. The whole journey started with an exhausting hill. Some classmates fell back, however, we stuck together and tried to help our classmates as much as we could. Yechan didn't turn his "Sport mode" on which caused him to struggle with some hills. The nasty hills even encouraged us more, because like one of hutong staff said "after every hill there will always be a downhill." We all finished the fabulous bike trip and everyone enjoyed it. We would definitely do it again!
