We are pleased to informed that in ASA Season 4, Ms. Gargum will be starting an ASA for BSB students to learn roller skating!
Some background about Ms. Gargum’s involvement with Roller Skating and Roller Derby
Note that our BSB ASA is a Roller Skating ASA and not Roller Derby.
Only those over 18 years old can join Beijing Roller Derby as it’s a full contact sport.
Below is some interesting background about Ms. Gargum.
I started playing 4 years ago in London from never having skated before. Now, I coach on Beijing Roller Derby. I will be running the official training course for Beijing Roller Derby that will start after the Chinese New Year holidays.
The best way to describe roller derby is that it is a full-contact sport played on roller skates, which started life as a roller skating marathon game in 1930s America but evolved to a competitive sport. Most teams are women’s teams but men’s and junior leagues now also make up this fast-growing sport, and each has it’s own governing body.
The photos were taken at BSB when we had two Team Canada players visited us and coached Beijing Roller Derby here. It was really exciting to have them come!
I am also part of an international team called “The Pan-Asian Spring Rollers” where players from all over Asia (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Japan, Korea at the moment) come together to play games. My last game was in Bangkok and was featured on Bangkok Sports news! I have been able to develop a fantastic network of friends all over Asia thanks to this fun sport.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
