Everyone spent the morning in rehearsals, just checking all details for the concert. After lunch, students changed into their concert clothes and could barely contain their excitement during final preparations. Finally, the moment had arrived and they made their way to the stage!
This year's concert theme was "Thriller in Manila", so all of the pieces had a spooky theme. The audience enjoyed selections such as the whimsical "Addams Family Theme Song" and the suspenseful "Phantom of the Opera". Each ensemble performed separately and had the chance to appreciate each other's talents and hard work. But the really WOW moments were the combined pieces when over 200 students performed some iconic pieces together such as "Thriller" and "Bring Me to Life".
This concert inaugurated the new Visual Performing Arts centre at British School Manila, and it was such an honour to be the first to perform in a new hall. All left the stage feeling very proud.
Both musicians and guests then had a lovely time at the post-concert celebration, a traditional Philippine Pinoy Fiesta. A lovely local ensemble performed throughout and everyone tried many local dishes. As if one party wasn't enough, the students then had a celebration dinner and disco. A few came in costume or masks to fit with the theme. It has been a wonderful few days!
It is time now to return to Beijing, and we are leaving very early. Students will arrive home very happy but also very tired! Well done to our Primary Music FOBISIA team!
Official concert photos will be posted when they are available later.
