Year Six have been working incredibly hard this term to develop their understanding of reasoning during their Maths lessons. Reasoning is an aspect of Maths that allows the students to showcase their mathematical skills by applying them to real life situations or problem solving questions. The Year Six pupils have been using a range of resources, including the One Note App on their ipads to learn the methods needed to approach different types of reasoning problems. They have developed in both their understanding and confidence of reasoning and this was clearly shown in our recent Parent Learning Look.
On Thursday 14th March, the Year Six children took part in a Maths Quiz Championship where they worked in teams to solve a range of very challenging reasoning questions. The Quiz was split into four rounds focusing on reasoning in fractions, decimals and percentages, place value, four operations and algebra and probability. There was also a bonus round with a reasoning riddles focus and two table rounds that allowed the children to use their shape and data knowledge.
The Year Six students were exceptional in using their reasoning skills to solve the problems with scores over 60 (out of full mark 70) being achieved by the winning teams. Congratulations to the teams ‘Meatball’ and ‘Superman’, who won the quiz in joint first position.
Parents were a huge support to their children, joining in passionately to support their child’s team and learning - many thanks to all who attended; your support was greatly appreciated.
