Theory of knowledge (TOK) is one of the components of the IB Diploma (IBDP) core and has a special role to play in providing the students the opportunity to reflect on the nature of knowledge itself. TOK is taught as one of the subjects in the IBDP. However, all IB subject teachers have the collective responsibility of integrating TOK critical skills in to their own individual subjects. This collaborative practice can result in livelier classrooms where students feel engaged and challenged.
With the view of enabling our IBDP teachers to gain an understanding of TOK and to provide them with strategies for integrating it in to their subjects, BSB Shunyi has collaborated with Nord Anglia University to offer a five- week, online course entitled “Theory of knowledge for subject teachers”. This is a pioneering effort as a NAU course has not been exclusively available to our teachers before.
BSB Shunyi Secondary teachers from various departments have enrolled in this tutored class and will eventually share their knowledge with the others in their respective departments. We are very optimistic about this endeavor and hope that our teachers and students will benefit from it.
