After a long summer break, all BSB students made a great start to the year, albeit online or face to face. The Year 10 French class were no exception to the rule, as they continue their learning journey in French.

For the first unit of the year, they tackled the challenge of reviewing prior learning and showcased their knowledge during numerous interactive activities. We used Paddlet to share answers with each other. Their participation through Paddlet posts was a great way to get to know each other. They took on the challenge to give two truths and one lie in French about themselves, having the rest of the class guessing who was being described.

We are currently exploring our first IGCSE topic 'Personal Life and Relationships' with a focus on relationships with family and friends.

Back in the classroom, the students have been working hard either in pairs or groups, polishing their listening, reading, and writing skills watching short videos of French-speakers describing their best friends. They will prepare a short video of themselves during which they will introduce their family and friends and explain what a good friend means to them.

Learning a language has its challenges and making learning relevant to students is essential to keep them motivated and eager to learn. All through the year, the students will acquire a variety of skills through activities such as understand a recipe and then use it in the cookery room, for instance.

The IGCSE Language course is a stepping stone to further studies at the International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) level.

It is crucial that our students are ready for the examination, at the end of the course. However, learning about the culture and enjoying their language studies are equally important to their progress.
