Monday 17th August was a memorable day for the first-graders of the German Primary School at BSB: they had their first day of school and it started online this year.

Unlike previous years, we welcomed GK1 students online via Microsoft teams as they started a new phase of their lives. Luckily we were able to have a small celebration as part of the enrolment because the first day of school is something extraordinary in Germany. Children received a huge "school cone" from their parents, filled with small surprises and a lovely celebration in the circle of family rounded off this day.

Since we could not meet for the first time in school, we changed our plans and invited the children to celebrate in a restaurant on Saturday 22nd August. The children took lovely pictures in front of the school with their school bags, and some had even worn their school uniforms. Afterwards, the families went to the restaurant Hulu with their school children. There, the children were greeted with a small musical that showed the schools’ everyday life, performed by a group of BSB students. A small welcome gift with the class mascot, the Penguin, was another surprise for the children.

Bravely, the 15 children spent more than three weeks of online learning before we finally welcomed them on BSB campus on 9th September. On that day, the children were also welcomed musically by the other German Primary children with a song! GK1 students are now sitting in their class - their new home, and doing as well as they have done in online learning before.

Welcome, GK1 students, we were so looking forward to meeting you!
