From Saturday 12th June to Monday 14th June, a group of Year 11 students completed a 2 day / 1 night hike and camp in the Huang Hua Cheng Great Wall area as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s International Bronze Award.
The route was up and down hills, through wooded areas and valleys, including sections on the Great Wall. The group, had to orientate their way along a route by using maps, a route planner and a compass. All this the students did while carrying heavy 60 / 70 litre rucksacks. They showed lots of stamina, motivation, enthusiasm and had to endure the heat and storm clouds of June. The students also worked well as a team and were a credit to the school and themselves.
A big thank you to the Insight Adventure team and the BSB staff – Mr David Wheeler and Miss Aletta Strauss for assisting in the running of the weekend camp and hike.
