  • Keep a Reading Journal and record the title and author of each book you read, the genre of the book, your thoughts about the book. Which of your friends would you recommend this book to and why?
  • Read as many genres as possible: fiction, non-fiction, science-fiction, poetry, biographies, autobiographies, information texts, magazines, etc.

  • Keep a Holiday Journal and write in it at least twice a week – every day would be excellent. Use your very best handwriting, use cursive writing if you can.
  • Stick in postcards and photos of places you have been to or things you have done. Stick in tickets and anything else you can think of to make it interesting. Label everything. Be creative and decorate the pages with colour, designs, sketches of your holiday etc.
  • Keep an online or digital journal and upload photos, videos and other interesting items. Share this with your class in the new school year.

Reading and Writing

  • Create your own Recipe Book – this could be digital or hard copy. Find recipes of food you like to eat and cook. Find recipes from the countries where you are travelling. Write out the recipe in your book. Make the dish and take a photo of it for your recipe book. Write a review – how much did you like what you cooked? How could you improve the recipe?

  • Make sure you know your times tables and number facts. Use the following websites to help with this:
  • Make your own times tables or number facts flash cards with the question on one side and the answer on the back. Test yourself or get someone to test you. How fast can you answer the questions? Record your speed and aim to get faster each week.
