Kevin Ban

Kevin Ban

Year 11

Kevin Ban joined BSB in 2013 as a Primary 2 pupil, making him one of our longest standing members of the current Year 11 cohort. Over the years at BSB, he has truly blossomed: “I used to barely talk or ask questions in classes, but now I'm becoming more like an inquirer, someone who is eager to ask questions and to find the correct answers.” A reflective individual, Kevin recognises the difference it has made to his learning to use his own initiative, communicate and take part in a wide range of activities. Kevin’s favourite school subjects are Economics, Mathematics, Sport Science, and Physics, and he has set himself the goal of achieving all A’s or above for his IGCSE Grades. He feels the positive environment BSB provides, especially in how helpful and caring friends and teachers are, is going to help him achieve this.

Kevin’s aspirations for school achievement become even more impressive when you learn what he does outside of school: “my proudest achievement to date is being able to play in a professional football team.” In 2017, Kevin joined the Beijing FC football team. This means that at the age of just 15, Kevin balances daily school commitments with daily, professional-level football practice. He is clearly exceptionally talented; since his time in the team, he has won over 80 medals for winning games and tournaments. As the centre defensive midfielder, he helped ensure his team won two out of three games in the group stage of the most recent tournament. This meant they made it into the knock-out match, and ranked the team 2nd in the squad. Even so, Kevin displays drive and passion to push himself and his team to even greater heights: “this is just the beginning of the tournament so we still look forward for the knock-out and hope we accomplish even greater success.” We do too Kevin!

Kevin’s striking levels of perseverance and commitment can also be seen in the way he manages catching up on any school work missed. Kevin thanks his teachers for this: “Even though I miss a lot of lessons in school due to football training in the afternoons, my teachers take the time and help me catch up with the missed work.” However, knowing that Kevin’s ambition is to become a professional football player in the first team of Beijing FC makes all of his teachers as determined as he is to help him achieve his dreams. That includes encouraging him to keep his options open: “I'm planning to go to the University of International Business and Economics of Beijing if i don’t want to play football anymore.” With such a bright future ahead of him, Kevin is undoubtably well poised to be the epitome of an internationally minded lifelong learner.
