I am a qualified Primary and EAl teacher. I started my professional teaching career as an EAL teacher ; the highlight of which was working at the prestigious Bangkok Patana school in Thailand working with the Early Years to Year 2 children. I was so inspired by my experiences there, I returned to England to train as a Primary teacher. Since then I have worked in a number of schools and countries around the world including the UK, Russia, Romania, Latvia, Thailand, Vietnam and China .

I have taught across all the Primary Key Stages - Early years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 . This is my third time working in China as I have previously worked for Nord Anglia Education in Ningbo and Shanghai. I have  led the subjects of  Literacy and Humanities and was a consultant for a brand new school in Vietnam . As I had previously worked in China and for Nord Anglia Education, it was a very easy decision to come to BSB Shunyi. I have always felt that Nord Anglia Education is a very professional company and it offers students and staff great opportunties to grow personally and professionally. In particular, I was drawn to the community feel of the school here in Shunyi , loved the initiatives and level of challenge the children receive and felt that the this school delivers an excellent all round educational experience for the children.

Since graduating from Dundee University, Scotland, with both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Architecture degrees, I have worked extensively with children, primarily through my passion for swimming. Alongside a 20 year career in construction, I devoted the majority of evenings and weekends to teaching and coaching swimming, from early years up to adulthood, with coaching roles both at regional and national level as part of English Schools Swimming in the UK.

Following two years living in Bangkok, Thailand, I joined BSB in September 2017 and gained my TEFL certification, working first in Early Years, then in Year 4 and Year 5 (SEN). My experience confirmed my desire to be a primary class teacher, so I could be a part of ensuring that each child’s individual potential is unlocked and realised. This  led to the undertaking of my PGCEi teaching qualification, which has now enabled me to join the teaching team in Year 2.  I am very excited about my new role and looking forward to my future in teaching, here at BSB.

I completed my degree in Southampton in England and then worked in a variety of different services that supported children and young people. This included supporting young people to live independently in housing projects, supporting young carers to access services and activities that they needed and working alongside schools to support children who were unable to access formal education. Before doing my PGCE I worked within the Youth Service in the UK where I ran sessions for a variety of young people which included supporting programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I did my PGCE in Exeter, England, in Primary education as I love the opportunity to develop a positive relationship with the children I teach. In a Primary setting, teachers are in the privileged position of spending most of the day with the same children. This enables me to really get to know each and every child I teach which creates a great environment of support and development. I have also recently completed my Masters in Education at Exeter University where I have been able to build and develop my knowledge and understanding of learning and education. I have taught across key stages 1 and 2 in the UK and within my role I have supported student and newly qualified teachers in developing and building their teaching skills. I was also the  Maths subject leader and designed and delivered training for teachers within this subject.

BSB really appealed to me as the values within the school are aligned to my beliefs about learning and education. I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to not only support the children’s learning and development but also, I’m excited to see how I will learn and develop by working with a new team.
