I completed my BA degree in Solent University, England and then worked in a variety of different services that supported children and young people. This included supporting young people to live independently in housing projects, supporting young carers to access services and activities that they needed and working alongside schools to support children who were unable to access formal education. Before doing my PGCE I worked within the Youth Service in the UK where I ran sessions for a variety of young people which included supporting programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
I did my PGCE at Plymouth University in Primary education as I love the opportunity to develop a positive relationship with the children I teach. In a Primary setting, teachers are in the privileged position of spending most of the day with the same children. This enables me to really get to know each and every child I teach which creates a great environment of support and development.
I have also recently completed my Masters in Education at Exeter University where I have been able to build and develop my knowledge and understanding of learning and education. I have taught across key stages 1 and 2 in the UK and within my role I have supported student and newly qualified teachers in developing and building their teaching skills. I was also the Maths subject leader and designed and delivered training for teachers within this subject.
BSB really appealed to me as the values within the school are aligned to my beliefs about learning and education. I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to not only support the children’s learning and development but also, I’m excited to see how I will learn and develop by working with a new team.
I came to Beijing in August 2020 with my husband and two daughters who are also going to BSB. We are really looking forward to exploring Beijing and travelling more widely around China. I love to try and make new and different foods so will be investigating places to eat! I also love to walk and run and explore the outside world so will be taking every opportunity to do this in China!
