    Jonathan Jones

It is a privilege to be joining BSB Shunyi as a Year 3 Teacher and the Head of Year 3.  I obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Diploma of Education from the Univeristy of Newcastle, Australia in 2006. I initially worked for ten years at one private school in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, teaching across a range of subject areas in both the primary and secondary school. In 2014, I completed a Masters of Education from the University of New England, majoring in School Leadership and Management.

BSB is my second international posting, having previously taught for the last two years at another international school in Beijing, where I undertook the role of a Year 3 Teacher and Numeracy Coordinator.

I graduated from Dartington College of Arts with a degree in Music and Arts Management. As a graduate I came to China with VSO and taught English to university students. After returning to England I taught ESOL at the local adult community college. During this time I gained an adult teaching qualification. Due to my teaching experience, I was accepted onto the Essex Graduate Teacher Training Programme and was awarded my QTS. I gained my Primary Teaching experience working in a large primary school in Essex.

In 2014, I received a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology, from the University of Surrey. But I soon found teaching was my passion and in 2015 I completed a Postgraduate certificate in Education, from the University of Winchester. Following this, I taught as a Year 6 teacher for three years in state school in the UK. During my time at this school, I was mathematics lead and I loved seeing reluctant mathematicians achieving confidence and enjoyment for the subject. I also had responsibility for leading the school productions, being in charge of residential trips and leading the netball team in various competitions.

I am very excited to be starting in the Year 5 team at the British School of Beijing; I am excited for the new challenges and opportunities the school will offer me. I love travelling and experiencing new cultures – so I can’t wait to fully immerse myself in the Chinese culture and history.

I graduated from Wolverhampton University in Fine Art and went onto undertaking Post Graduate Diplomas in Building Surveying (Reading University) and Architectural Stone Conservation (Bournemouth University). From there I worked as a Stone Conservator, restoring/conserving historic/listed buildings throughout the UK including Salisbury Cathedral, Westminster Abby, Cardiff Castle and Kensington Palace. During this time I became involved in teaching these subjects. I enjoyed teaching so much this led onto me qualifying as a fulltime teacher.
