I first began teaching English as a second language (ESL) internationally and was lucky enough to work with students of all ages from all over the world. During this time, I spent several years managing a team of academic staff at a language school in Kuala Lumpur, and also trained teachers (including for the Cambridge DELTA qualification). After this, as reading and writing have always been a passion, I decided to return to the UK after almost 10 years overseas in order to specialise in teaching English language and literature at secondary level.

I am very passionate about adapting teaching to the needs of different students, and also keen to learn about the places that I work in. Therefore, I have continuously tried to develop both my professional and cultural knowledge. After initially studying English and International Studies at undergraduate level, and then later training in ESL teaching, I have since completed a PGCE with the University of Sussex, a certificate in teaching students with dyslexia, and a master’s degree in Asia Pacific Studies. As a result of my qualifications and experience to date, working with the students and team at BSB is a fantastic opportunity.

Armed with my bachelor’s degree I completed in my home country of Australia and a passion for the English language, I took up my first English teaching role. Over the last 14 years I have taught both EAL and mainstream English to students of all ages in Australia, South Korea, Thailand, the UK and Myanmar. Throughout my professional career I have completed further studies including a PGCE and a teacher certification program, and I am always eager to learn and improve my teaching knowledge and skills.

Having lived in Asia for many years, China has always fascinated me. The history, culture and traditions have always been of great interest to me so I am excited to finally live in China, and experience all these things first hand. I am familiar with Nord Anglia Education’s group of British schools through the great reputation they have worldwide, and I know that working at BSB will allow me to grow as a teacher while working in this amazing country.

I am originally from Philadelphia, in the United States, and I have been teaching abroad since my graduation from Pennsylvania State University in 1999, both in Japan and across China.  Most recently, I have worked at the Centre for Overseas Academic and Cultural Exchange at Tsinghua University, and as Head of English, IB Coordinator, and most recently Academic Principal at The International Curriculum Centre of RDFZ RenDaFuZhong (The High School Affliated with Renmin University).  During this time I obtained my PGCE from Sunderland University, and am currently studying for my MA Education with the same institution.

I am delighted to be back in the classroom full time with BSB.  BSB’s focus on the whole child is very appealing to me as an educator – the rigorous academics coupled with development of all the social and personal skills required for a person to be successful in their future.  BSB’s IGCSE and IB curricula also fit well with my own teaching experience.

I am from the UK. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Newcastle, and later earned my teaching qualifications in Cheltenham and Nottingham. I worked in international schools in Russia and the UK before moving to China.

I came to China in 2014 and have taught IGCSE English, IBDP English B and English A Language and Literature. I came to BSB because I was impressed by its culture of “Be Ambitious”. I enjoy challenging students with high-level, idiomatic and colloquial language.
