I first began teaching English as a second language (ESL) internationally and was lucky enough to work with students of all ages from all over the world. During this time, I spent several years managing a team of academic staff at a language school in Kuala Lumpur, and also trained teachers (including for the Cambridge DELTA qualification). After this, as reading and writing have always been a passion, I decided to return to the UK after almost 10 years overseas in order to specialise in teaching English language and literature at secondary level.
I am very passionate about adapting teaching to the needs of different students, and also keen to learn about the places that I work in. Therefore, I have continuously tried to develop both my professional and cultural knowledge. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) in English and International Studies at The Open University, I was then trained in ESL teaching and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in TESOL (DipTESOL) and Postgraduate Certificate in TESOL (CertTESOL) from Trinity College London. I have since completed a PGCE in English (Secondary) with the University of Sussex, a certificate in teaching students with dyslexia, and a master’s degree in Asia Pacific Studies from University of Leeds.
As a result of my qualifications and experience to date, working with the students and team at BSB is a fantastic opportunity.
I have always felt passionate about learning and aim to share this with all the students I teach. For the past few years, I have myself been learning Mandarin Chinese, and am now even more motivated to improve my language skills as my son is growing up bilingual (English & Mandarin). Beijing, therefore, is a great location for my family.
