I work at BSB as a German Teacher. I am based both in Secondary and Primary School. I teach IB German A: Language and Literature, LOTE Primary German Y1-Y6 and GK German in Y5. I come from the Czech Republic where I studied Teaching/Education in two subjects – in German language and literature, and in History for Secondary and High Schools. Apart from that I obtained a scholarship at University of Konstanz, Germany. I finished my studies with a Magister (Master's) degree (Hon) at Technical University of Liberec, Masaryk University, University of Hradec Kralove.
Before joining BSB Shunyi in 2017, I worked as a German Teacher/German Lead and EAL Teacher at The British International School Moscow, Russia. I have been teaching for more than 19 years so far and I really enjoy my profession. It is actually my passion. Despite being a Secondary Teacher I have got experience in teaching across all age groups, from the age of 2 in kindergarten to primary, junior and senior secondary schools, up to teaching adults. I spent most of my teaching time at international schools around the globe where I held different roles and positions: Head of German, Head of Secondary Section, History and English Teacher, Primary Teacher, Kindergarten Teacher, etc.
In my free time l love adventure hiking and cycling tours, visiting historical sites as well as exploring different landscapes and natural features. I, for example, really enjoyed my adventure travels in Rwanda, Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia). I also like literature and I am interested in photography, railway, history, philosophy, linguistics, art history and geography.
Apart from Russia, I, for example, taught at Rainbow International School Kampala, Uganda (one of the leading int. schools in Eastern Africa) where I stayed 4 years and enjoyed the beauty of this country with its amazing landscapes, wildlife and very rich cultural heritage. My other schools were Bujumbura International Montessori School, Burundi; King International Kindergarten Changsha, China and other schools. Apart from teaching internationally I also worked at state schools in the Czech Republic, Germany and Scotland. The results of my students were mostly excellent or very good. In my last school, for example, the vast majority of my students got A* in IGCSE German and 6 or 7 in IB German.
As I am, among other things, interested in didactics and methodology of foreign languages, I am able to use during my lessons a wide range of modern teaching methods, philosophies, trends and playful elements in order to make learning and teaching of a foreign language as effective and interesting as possible, for instance, by using the inductive method (from specific to general), or the context based methods rather than teaching grammar and vocabulary without context. My teaching methodology stresses activity-based learning, and the children are encouraged to enjoy and participate in the investigation of all areas of study.
