I am an enthusiastic educator excited to be joining the British School of Beijing. I graduated from the University for Teacher Education in Graz, Austria with a Bachelor of Education majoring in German and Digital Media. I then began my Master’s Degree in Education. These qualifications provided me with invaluable teacher professional development. I found particular interest in understanding individual student development and the impact personalising teaching and learning could have on supporting students. This understanding has been informed by both observations of colleagues as well as within my own teaching practice. Currently, I am working on my Master’s Thesis which explores the extent to which different socio-economic contexts impact how students view their own mathematical skills in the primary school years.
As part of my studies, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go abroad. As a result, I experienced a semester in Oslo, Norway. I used that time to focus on ways to support students with specific learning needs. It deepened my knowledge and understanding of a wide range of creative strategies that can be utilised to advance student progress. Moreover, visits to various schools and kindergartens, including a hospital school, really broadened my perspective as an educator. As a teacher, my role is more than just to deliver information; I strive to engage my students, personalise learning and support each one to achieve all they are capable of.
It was my time in Norway that made me fall in love with the dynamics of an international context. Experiencing how enriching and interesting it is to get to know people and ways of teaching from all over the world motivated me to apply for BSB Shunyi. I am looking forward to continuing to develop myself as an educator and am thrilled to have the chance to do so in such an enriching environment.
