University Degree: BSc Biological Science, PGCE
I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Biological Science from the University of Leicester in the UK. It is here that I also gained my PGCE Science and Biology in 2010 before beginning my teaching career as a Science teacher at an Academy in Milton Keynes. I have also completed the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership ( NPQML ) course at the UK National College for Teaching and Leadership.
I originally come from Durham, in the Northeast of England, however I spent much of my childhood in Germany. In 2012 I returned there to take up teaching position in a British school near Hannover. My love for travelling drove me to seek employment further afield and I join BSB from an International School in Malaysia where I have been teaching for the past 2 years.
Although a Biology specialist, I have passion and experience in teaching all three science subjects. Over the past 7 years I have taught Physics, Chemistry and Biology at GCSE, A level Biology as well as some A level Chemistry. I have a special interest in supporting students in their journey towards higher education and in my previous post I was the coordinator for 'Elite applications' with responsibility for applications to Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary medicine courses.
I have an array of interests and hobbies that support and widen my role as a classroom teacher. I regularly bring my passion for conservation science into the classroom to give extra context and breadth to the curriculums I teach. I believe that students only gain a true understanding for a subject unless they can experience things first hand. Whether that be through practical work everyday in my classroom, or during expeditions like the one I lead to Borneo jungle earlier in the year, I strive to provide exciting and unique learning opportunities whenever possible.
As the founder of the Eco-Club at my previous school, I lead initiatives aimed at moving them towards 'Eco-school' status and supported pupils in raising awareness of key environmental issues. I also enjoy a wide range of sports including lacrosse, swimming, netball and scuba diving and in the past I have used my expertise asa qualified PADI Dive Master to set-up scuba diving clubs for students and staff. I throw myself into all aspects of school life, whether that be sport, music, drama or charity work and I look forward to joining the thriving BSB community.
