Secondary Art Teacher

BA Art & Jewellery Design, TEFL and teacher licence

My parents and grandparents were all educators and my parents encouraged me to become a teacher, but when I chose my University course, I selected Jewellery at Stellenbosch University. South Africa is a mining country and I thought that would be a better career choice. I finished my degree, completed a two year apprenticeship and then started my own business. Everything went well until South Africa hit power and postal strikes. This resulted in closing the business, at which point I decided to go teach a year in South Korea. The plan was to take a break and hopefully the power and postal situation would be resolved after a year and I could return and continue the jewellery trade. It did not and, to my parent’s delight, I started to make the career change to education.

I came over to China after 2 years teaching in Korea. I have a TEFL certificate from Stellenbosch University and a teacher licence from Washington State, U.S.A.  I want to apply to BSB because being an Art teacher at BSB was my dream job. Finally there was an opening and I am so happy to be here now!
