Over the course of a week, our Year 12 and 13 students traveled from Glasgow to London, visiting some of the most prominent universities in the UK.

From morning to evening, the days were filled with new activities in each of the cities we passed, yet, despite our exhaustion, exploring the universities never ceased to be interesting and fun.

We were given tours by undergraduate students, offering us the chance to gain a deeper insight on aspects of student life which would be impossible to discover through websites and rankings.

The trip was an excellent opportunity to improve our understanding of these universities, enabling us to make more informed decisions as to where we will study in the future and hopefully making the choice a little easier.

The aim of the UK university trip is to provide the Year 12 students with an insight into life and study at a UK university, hopefully helping them make more informed choices in Year 13.

We choose a selection of universities in terms of the style and entry requirements. Oxford Brookes gave us a chance to see one of the more modern universities. Warwick is a campus university and the student ambassadors really explained what it is like to have everything in one location, for some of the students this really appealed to them. Others were taken by the splendor of cities like Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Glasgow, with the cosmopolitan feel and history. At Imperial College, London we had an engineering workshop and at the London School of Economics they were involved in a Dragon’s Den style business challenge. Both workshops were highly interactive and got the students engaged with the subject material – just a brief insight into what they might experience at university.
