A Frozen Christmas

04 12월 2014

Antonia Geidel, Year 10 Business Studies student, shared how her team worked together to run their Christmas Fayre stall and successfully raised funds for charity.

A Frozen Christmas

This year’s Christmas Fayre was held on the 22nd of November. A lot of parents, teachers and also us, business studies students, were involved in it.  In our class (Mr. Mounters’ class), we had four groups: Duty Free, MBC, Blitz and Frozen – the group I was in.

We had just enough time for our preparation. We had to find a name for our business, chose a leader and a deputy, draw posters and, last but not least, choose our products. Our group went for quite a wide product range. Apart from our baked goods (brownies, muffins and cookies) and tattoo and face-painting, we also sold hand warmers, pens and bookmarks. And of course, a game that couldn’t be missed – the wheel of fortune!

However, we had our financial problems. Actually we were only given 300 RMB although we needed an extra 200 RMB to finance our business. Luckily our group leader could convince Mr Mounter so that we had his support.

On the actual day, our group arrived at 2 pm, which meant that we had two hours to prepare. We had to put our posters up, decorate our stall and sort out our game and products.

At half past three, the first customer arrived and we were ready to go! Overall our products sold quite well, even though we were afraid in the beginning because a lot of people didn’t realize that there were more stalls in the cafeteria or didn’t see our stall.

At about six o’clock everybody was leaving and it was time to pack up again and count our money! In total we raised 2,876 RMB for charity (in our case, for Tanzania) and both business studies classes together raised over 11,500 RMB! Our hard work was therefore rewarded and we are happy to have been helping at the Christmas Fayre to create a Christmasy feeling and supporting others.
