We had an amazing start to the week when we all dressed up as different characters from lots of books. We had the hungry caterpillar, Tinker Bell, Minnie Mouse, Buzz, Spiderman and Leo the tiger to name but a few. Some of the children did some beautiful self-portraits looking carefully at what they were wearing and trying to match the colours. The children did a great job at telling us who they were and which book they came from.
This week we have enjoyed listening to lots of stories and the children have really enjoyed listening to stories that we have made up. The stories that we have been telling the children started when a little girl found a key on the ground that started to glow. The children have named the little girl 'Mina' and they have listened so well to us tell stories of her adventures.
Stories have been all around us this week and the children have been revisiting some traditional stories. They have been building houses for the three little pigs and enjoying playing with play dough which smelt like gingerbread. We made gingerbread men which the children helped to roll and cut out; luckily they didn't escape from the oven when they were cooking! They helped to build bridges for the three Billy goats and enjoyed pretending to fill their basket with goodies to take to grandma.
Some children also have been busy making their own books and it has been lovely to watch the children tell each other stories especially when they have been pretending to play schools!
In phonics this week we enjoyed a game on the IWB where the children had to choose a sound button and see if they could recognise the sound. Some of the sounds were very loud and some of them were very quiet! They also enjoyed playing a sound bingo game but this time it was sounds from around the home.
For our maths focus this week, we listened to the story of Rosie’s Walk and talked about positional language. The children had a great time outside on the play equipment pretending to be chickens and foxes going under, over, around, across and through the equipment.
