Group 1 Ms. Lucy Thompson
Today we worked on the secondary school building project. After a hearty breakfast we travelled to the project site where we met group 4 (Mr Brigstocks group). We were then split into four teams to carry out various tasks around the site. One team was digging foundations for a new science block, one was filling in foundations of another building, another were plastering walls and another group was brick laying. The secondary school will serve children in the local village who currently have to walk up to 20km each day to attend their current school.
After a morning of hard work we were transported to the Seaway residential complex for lunch and had a tour of the school that BSB students were involved in building several years ago. After lunch were returned to the building site where students swapped activities and continued their building work.
At the end of the day children from the local primary school came to the site and students got the opportunity to interact and play with them. It was a lovely reward at the end of a long hard day of work!
Group 4 Mr. Andrew Brigstock
Yesterday morning we went to a free trade organic coffee farm. We learned all about the processes from planting through to roasting. Later that day we set up camp at Dolly Bush, flanked by Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meeru. We shared the camp with zebra and impaler whom came very close to observe the boys cook us a Bunny Chow and the girls cook us a Dal recipe.
Today we woke up had breakfast and set off to start work building the secondary school. We joined up with Ms. Thompson's Group 1 there. My students were involved in placing the foundation rocks and bricklaying. Very challenging work under the Tanzanian sun.
Group 2 & 3 have no internet access.
