University Degree: BA Ed Hons Education
I was fortunate in that I knew I wanted to be a teacher so when I studied at Durham University I did a four year teaching degree, (BA Ed. Hons). I then taught for two years in the UK before I began my travels overseas. I worked in three international schools in Kuwait before I arrived in Beijing in August 2010. I have taught children from Pre Nursery, right up to Year 9; covering all areas of the curriculum. BSB was the right place for me to come to after I left Kuwait. The ethos of the school, the family feel was not only something I wanted to be a part of but also something I wanted my children to have an experience of.
I believe that every child should be given the opportunity to do their best. I aim to provide an environment in which they are happy to have a go and take a risk, supporting them in the choices they make. As part of the PE department, I am in an environment where the children can take risks, develop their physical skills and learn the importance of exercise and healthy living.
I live here in Beijing with two of my three children. My eldest has just begun studying in the UK at Keele University, whilst my other two children are in the Secondary school. I really believe that they are extremely privileged to be here and living in China, making friends with children from all over the world. They are truly citizens of the world. They speak Chinese well, much better than me, whilst receiving an excellent education.
When I am not at school or at home with my children, you will find me at my second home Crossfit 86. I train each morning before school and at the weekends. My love of exercise extends into all areas of my life; school and home. My girls have also started Crossfit for teens and my son plays football, basketball and works out in the gym. Exercise is important to all of us. We have many friends here and spend time with them. Friends become family and there is a great family feel at BSB which makes living here a truly unique experience.
