I began my teaching career working with EFL students in Phuket as a young and eager traveller curious about life outside of my home country, South Africa. I fell in love working with young children and went on to study an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education through The University of South Africa, whilst working at an International pre-school in Hanoi. After I got my teaching degree, I moved to an IB school in Hanoi where I spent many years working as a classroom teacher in the early primary grades.
After 13 years in South East Asia, 2 in Phuket and 11 in Hanoi, my husband and I decided to move to Beijing. We arrived in July 2016 and have loved our time here so far. I took the first year to be at home with our daughter and work on a post graduate certificate in Educational Leadership through the University of Leicester. This is my third year teaching Year 1 at BSB, and my daughter is in Reception now.
I really enjoy the diversity of our lifestyle and work environment, and feel privileged to have had many opportunities to experience this awe-inspiring world we are a part of. Engaging with different people is what I love most about living abroad, and I am pleased to now be in China, where many wondrous explorations await.
Alongside exploring and travelling, I love hiking, camping, and… food! I get very excited about good food, new food, obscure food, all food really! Going out to try something different, finding a hidden eatery or revisiting a favourite restaurant brings great delight.
