My teaching career began about 19 years ago after graduating with distinctions in Mathematics and Natural Science from Springfield College of Education in Durban, South Africa. I taught Senior Primary Math & Science in South African Public Schools for a period of 3 Years, thereafter securing myself a KS3 & KS4 Math & Science teaching post at a comprehensive high school in Surrey, England.
During my time in England, I also completed my BSc (Open) Degree major in Animal Physiology and Infectious Diseases and had the opportunity to complete my practical component at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. After 5 years of working in England, my family and I returned to South Africa where I taught for a further 5 years. In 2013 , my husband and I moved to Suzhou, China where I taught IGCSE & A-Level Biology and IGCSE & As-Level Math at an International High School catering for Chinese students aiming to study at top Universities abroad.
I consider myself to be a truly International Teacher having taught such diverse group of students and different curriculae, the CAIE Curriculum is the one which I’m most experienced at. At this juncture in my teaching career, I wish to further my teaching experience in IB. Teaching at BSB Shunyi in 2019 has afforded me the opportunity to gain valuable experience teaching the IB Curriculum and in turn, I will be able to use my wealth of teaching experience and knowledge to continue ensuring academic excellence in all students whom I will be teaching.
My teaching career has afforded the opportunity for my family and I to travel, live, school and work in 3 different continents of the World. My children are typically “third culture kids” and therefore as a parent and teacher, I am fully aware of the aspirations and challenges facing children who are away from their “motherland”. Travelling does afford one the opportunity to new experiences and I believe this is one of the things I’m most passionate about.
