From Brazil to USA, Basketball Star Enrico Borio

From Brazil to USA, Basketball Star Enrico Borio - From Brazil to USA High School Basketball Star Enrico Borio
Enrico Borio's journey from Brazil to North Broward has been nothing short of remarkable. He exemplifies dedication, talent, and a love for basketball that transcends borders.

Basketball journey

Borio's commitment to the sport began at the age of twelve; he was initially drawn to soccer before embracing basketball. A sport deeply ingrained in his family's history. His parents both played and met due to the sport. Ever since he started playing, his parents committed to going to his games and he always counted on their support in the stands.

His dream was to play basketball at the next level—to play college basketball—with aspirations for the NBA. This dream led him to attend North Broward Preparatory School to finish high school. Due to the supportive school community and coaching staff, he knew attending high school in America would be a good decision to not only develop academically but also on the court. Under Coach Casey Wohlleb’s leadership, his personalized approach to player development has been instrumental in Borio's growth as an athlete and individual. Check out this video to get a glimpse of his talent.

Boarding Student

He started his junior year as an international boarding student from Brazil. When he arrived on campus, he found a second home where his passion for basketball flourished. “North Broward had everything I was looking for in a school, plus a great basketball team. The dorms are nice too.” Enjoying every moment of living and learning on campus, he allowed himself to take full advantage of the campus. By working out in the weight room or shooting some hoops after school, Enrico enjoyed emerging himself on campus and making friendships with peers from all around the world, including his teammates. As an international player, he had to adjust to playing the American style of basketball. Growing up, he learned how to play European-style basketball, which is focused on collective team play with more ball movement. The American style is very individual-oriented, which resulted in him growing more as a leader and becoming a captain in his senior year.

Being a part of the North Broward Prep basketball team has really helped Borio grow as a player and with his teammates. The coaches really help cater the game to the individual and team’s strengths and weaknesses. A member of the team for two years has really helped transform the program. Borio has become such a big asset to the team.

At the start of his senior year, his entire family and two brothers relocated from Brazil to attend the school as traditional day students. His younger brother, Sophomore, Francesco, plays alongside Enrico on the team. Eighth grader, Luigi, is preparing to be on the varsity team next year. Playing the game he loves with his brothers, Borio found purpose in setting a positive example and sharing the court with those closest to him.

North Broward helps all athletes interested in playing in college to receive competitive offers from programs that cater to the individual. The direction of Head Coach Wohlleb and the athletic department, all made sure Borio received invitations from universities to watch him play and to have open communication to receive offers. Borio received a lot of college offers, due to how he shaped the North Broward basketball team and being a team member on the Brazilian National Team. Next year, he is committed to play and attend Jacksonville University “A perfect fit basketball wise and a great university.”
Once he made his college decision, the momentum did not stop. Borio was invited to play for the Basketball without Borders organization on February 17, during the NBA All Star weekend, representing Brazil.
