Bad hair and sponsored silence - raising money to support UNICEF China update

11 March 2014

As a result of finding out how UNICEF supports children in China at assembly two weeks ago, the Sanlitun School Council proposed that we hold a whole school sponsored event on February 28th.

School council representatives had conducted a vote amongst the students and chosen a
‘Sponsored Silence’ and ‘Bad Hair Day’. Students in Year 2 also contributed to the fundraising activity by selling some of the hand-made chocolates they had made as part of their Chocolate topic.

On Monday, the Student Council were delighted to have the opportunity to present a cheque to Gillian Mellsop (UNICEF Representative for China) for the impressive amount of RMB17,653 which included RMB2,195 raised through Year 2 sales of hand-made chocolate. Ms Mellsop shared how far this money could go to support children in other parts of China and it really brought home to everyone how important this initiative is.

All the students and teachers were so proud of our collective efforts. We would like to thank everyone for the donations and support offered to UNICEF and the children of China.
