College Advising Updates - April 14, 2020

13 April 2020

SENIORS

We’ve been communicating with you to provide updates from the College Advising Office focusing on next steps in your admissions process, as well as up-to-date information about how the higher education landscape is changing in ways that may impact your college experience in the coming months. In the link below, you’ll find information on a variety of topics, ranging from admissions and financial aid, to helpful advice on how to reach a final decision. With that in mind, you may also want to check out Rick Clark’s most recent Georgia Tech blog post - Class of 2020, Great Minds Think Differently, where he encourages seniors to use this time “to think differently about your actions, your decisions, and your words. In doing that, you’ll finish high school well, make a college choice that is truly yours, and bring signs of light, life, and hope to a world that desperately needs it right now.”

JUNIORS

Recently, we’ve communicated with you to provide updates

from the College Advising Office focusing on upcoming changes in the college application process, as well as up-to-date information about how the higher education landscape is evolving in ways that may impact your application experience in the coming months. In the link below, you’ll find information on a variety of topics, ranging from admissions and upcoming virtual information sessions, to test preparation tips and resources.

As mentioned in previous emails from our office, many institutions of higher education have publicly released statements indicating that Class of 2021 applicants will not be penalized for procedural changes at their high schools and that if a student’s high school decides to change the educational delivery method, this will not impact the student’s opportunity for admission. Regarding extracurricular activities, these institutions also understand that students are limited in their opportunities for involvement during this time and they have committed to remaining flexible and understanding of these extenuating circumstances, which will not reflect negatively on the student.

Week of 4/6 College Advising Updates - click the link to access; includes information about:

  • Upcoming Junior virtual workshop series (Recommendation Letters; Essays/Personal Statements and Resumes; Introduction to College Applications)

  • Collegiate athletics, recruitment, and college planning (virtual seminar hosted by NBPS Athletics Department and CAO)
