Dr Christopher A. J. Chilvers

Physics Coordinator & Teacher of Science

Once upon a time, I was a telecommunications engineer in London but opted to study a degree in Philosophy and the History and Philosophy of Science at University of Leeds in 1995. After achieving a first class qualification, I read a Master of Science and Doctorate at Linacre College, University of Oxford from 1998. This has led to 31 published academic papers and two books with a third due for publication.

Subsequently, I was the Senior Research Fellow at the Science Museum in London, Assistant Professor in History of Technology at the Technical University of Denmark and taught at several London university colleges. The courses taught included history of technology, history of science, biology of women, engineering, physics, international relations, urban history and business and politics. I have organized over 40 international research conferences at Harvard, Princeton, Kracow, Prague, Beijing, Oxford and the Science Museum among others and delivered lectures at each of these institutions. In addition, I worked as a political analyst and consultant to the British and European Parliaments.

In 2014, I became a teacher of Science especially Physics in Kent, England and have taught Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. I also teach engineering, politics and history.

My passion is to educate and to learn whether by lecturing, teaching, writing or participating in discussion and debate. The British School of Guangzhou offers an exceptional environment in which to develop my passions and experience new and diverse cultures within which to set education. With existing links to Guangdong, working here is a natural and pleasing progression and I hope I can offer the school many skills and some interesting knowledge.
